With the Alaska Airlines Visa® Business Card, you can enjoy airline status privileges without actually having the status. Benefits include a free checked bag and priority boarding. If you travel with a Companion on Alaska Airlines at least annually, this card can be a good option.

Point Multipliers

Earn Alaska Mileage Plan Miles on a wide variety of categories:

  • 3X Miles on eligible Alaska Airlines purchases, such as flights and in-flight Wi-Fi
  • 2X Miles on eligible gas and EV charging station purchases
  • 2X Miles on shipping
  • 2X Miles on local transit purchases, including rideshare
  • 1X Mile on all other purchases

You also earn a 10% rewards bonus on all miles earned from the Alaska Airlines Business Card purchases if your company has an eligible Bank of America small business account.

Alaska Miles are one of the most powerful if you’re interested in first and business-class international travel with oneworld® Alliance and Alaska partners.

Alaska's Famous Companion Fare™

The biggest perk of the Alaska Airlines Visa Business card is the Companion Fare. Earn Alaska's Famous Companion Fare™ ($99 fare plus taxes and fees from $23) each account anniversary after you spend $6,000 or more on purchases within the prior anniversary year. Valid on all Alaska Airlines flights booked on alaskaair.com. Terms apply so make sure to review them.

Most people will break even or come out ahead of the annual fee by maximizing the Companion Fare. The optimal strategy is to book a round-trip flight to get better value, especially longer flights that can be more costly. You’ll need to pay for the ticket with the Alaska Airlines Visa Business card to use this.

To redeem the Companion Fare, simply apply the discount code at the time you purchase the primary ticket.

Note that this only works on flights operated by Alaska Airlines, Virgin America, or Horizon Air. It also needs to be a paid flight (but you can use travel funds to reduce the total amount). Miles or discount codes can not be used to lower the cost as part of the Companion Fare.

Travel Benefits

In addition to Alaska's Famous Companion Fare, the card provides several valuable travel perks typically associated with airline status. To take advantage of these travel perks, you must purchase the flights using your card.

Free checked bags
Enjoy a free checked bag on Alaska flights for you and up to six other guests on the same reservation.

Priority Boarding
Enjoy priority boarding when you book Alaska Airlines flights with your card. You’ll board after first class, veterans / active military, passengers who need extra time, and Alaska and oneworld elite members.

In-flight Savings
Get 20% back on all Alaska Airlines in-flight purchases with your card. This can be helpful if you need to buy internet or like to pay for food and drinks aboard the flight.

No Foreign Transaction Fees
The Alaska Airlines Visa credit card doesn’t have any foreign transaction fees, which makes it a great travel card.

Value of Alaska Mileage Plan Miles

This card earns Alaska MileagePlan Miles and can be great for international first and business-class redemptions.

A big reason for this is that Alaska Airlines is a member of the oneworld Alliance. This gives you access to over 1,000 destinations around the world and allows you to book with partners.

Members of the oneworld Alliance include airlines such as Cathay Pacific, American Airlines, British Airways, Japan Airlines, among others.

The value of Alaska Mileage Plan Miles can vary dramatically depending on how you use the miles. For domestic Alaska-operated flights, the value will likely be lower and more standardized. “Outsized” value will be with oneworld partners for premium cabins.

Main Takeaway

For those who frequently fly with Alaska Airlines or want Alaska miles, this card can be a valuable option. It offers perks such as a free checked bag, priority boarding, and Alaska's Famous Companion Fare™ ($99 fare plus additional taxes and fees starting from $23) each year after spending $6,000 or more in the previous anniversary year.

For those looking to travel in luxury, you can use your miles with oneworld Alliance partners to book international first and business-class journeys.
