The Capital One Spark Cash Plus Card is a good choice for business owners with strong credit who spend a lot on travel and are willing to pay a higher annual fee of $150. This fee is higher compared to similar cards, but the rewards earned can be very lucrative for frequent travelers.

Point Multipliers

The Capital One Spark Cash Plus earns unlimited 2% cash back for your business on all purchases.

There aren't any restrictions on categories or how much cash back you can earn.

In addition to 2% cash back on everything, there are a few other point multiplier categories:

  • 5% Cash back on hotels booked through Capital One Travel
  • 5% Cash back on rental cars booked through Capital One Travel

No APR

The Capital One Spark Cash Plus has no APR because it's a pay-in-full card. You card balance is due in full every month. Otherwise, you'll be charged a monthly late fee.

Be aware that Capital One expects you to pay off the card in full every month, so you can't really float a balance for inventory here.

No Preset Spending Limit

The Spark Cash Plus can adapt to your spending needs based on your spending behavior, payment history, and credit profile.

In practice, credit issuers usually have an internal limit they're comfortable with, and they might review your transactions or stop new ones if they're concerned about default.

Usually, you can train up that number for them to get comfortable, so the first month might still be rough if your business has large spending behavior.

Other Benefits and Perks

The Spark Cash Plus has a handful of other benefits and perks, including:

  • Virtual card numbers
  • Free employee cards
  • Set customized spending limits for each employee's card

"Superpowers"

One feature of the Capital One Spark Cash Plus that many people may not be aware of is the ability to transfer the cash back earned with the card into Capital One miles.

However, this feature also requires you to have one of Capital One's miles-earning cards, such as the Capital One Venture, Capital One Venture X, or the Capital One Spark Miles.

The benefit of this is that 2% cash back is equal to 2x miles when transferred in this way. These miles can then be transferred to Capital One's travel partners at a generally 1:1 transfer rate, although there are a few exceptions.

1:1 Transfer Ratio

Upon transferring 1,000 Capital One miles to any of the listed transfer partners, you will receive an equal number of miles or points in the corresponding travel loyalty program.

  • Aeromexico Club Premier
  • Aeroplan®
  • Asia Miles
  • Avianca LifeMiles
  • British Airways Executive Club
  • Choice Privileges®2
  • Emirates Skywards
  • Etihad Guest
  • Finnair Plus
  • Flying Blue
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
  • TAP Miles&Go
  • Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles
  • Virgin Red

2:1.5 Transfer Ratio

Upon transferring 1,000 Capital One miles to this partner, you will receive 750 miles or points in their travel loyalty program:

  • EVA Air Infinity MileageLands

2:1 Transfer Ratio

By transferring 1,000 Capital One miles to this partner, you will receive 500 miles or points in their travel loyalty program:

  • ALL - Accor Live Limitless

Transfer partner options can provide significantly more value than paying for travel out of pocket, even considering the potential for tax write-offs. It is important to note that some transfer rates may change from time to time.

Main Takeaway

The Spark Cash Plus may be a good choice if you need a card that offers a good catch-all for non-category spending and a flexible payment period.

However, if your spending is more specific, such as running a startup and paying a large AWS bill, you may be better off with a card that earns you a higher reward rate in those areas, like the Amazon card, which earns 5% on Amazon purchases.

On the other hand, if you work in an office and frequently purchase supplies, there may be cards that offer higher rewards at office supply stores.

The Capital One Spark Cash Plus is generally a good recommendation for those with high-spending businesses who want a simple and easy-to-use rewards program. It is a "set it and forget it" option that can be re-evaluated in 6-24 months.
